The Mr. Local History Project is sponsoring the first-ever “Crumb Cake Burger Flat Top Challenge,” which will introduce Jersey’s best-rated 1/2-pound burger inside a piece of Jersey’s best-rated crumb cake.

Two New Jersey institutions are coming together for the first time ever as the Mr. Local History Project sponsors the first trial of combining one of Jersey’s best burgers with one of Jersey’s best Crumb Cake—it’s called the Crumb Cake Burger. For one afternoon, Newark’s iconic Krug’s Tavern will serve as the host introducing this innovative, exclusive culinary concoction.

Crumb Cake Burger Idea
The idea for the crumb cake burger came when Mr. Local History’s Brooks Betz visited the Committed Pig in Morristown a few years ago and had to try their “Donut Burger”, which was on the menu. “What could go wrong?” stated Betz. I mean, two glazed donuts with a beautifully crafted Smashburger in the middle… It’s a perfect brunch idea.”
Betz admitted it sounded weird, but after ordering the concoction and taking a big bite, the results were in, and he agreed it was a winner. “I had my doubts, but the burger is actually delicious: sweet first bite, then the burger with bacon backs up the sweetness.” It was an exciting and fun culinary experience.

A few years later, when Betz was researching the best crumb cake in New Jersey, he had the idea, “Why not ask Krug’s, my favorite burger spot, if I could bring over a couple of B&W Hackensack crumb cakes and create a crumb cake burger?” After a quick post on their Instagram account, Krug’s responded, “We’re in—We love Jersey Crumb Cake.”
