Bernardsville 100 – A Birthday Party – Ah the History

1924 is the year Bernardsville passed a resolution to separate from Bernards Township and form an independent borough. Just a year after Far Hill did it in 1921, Bernardsville had to try once previously before succeeding the second time.

There are so many ways to honor Bernardsville’s history. On September 14, 2024, “Bernardsvillers” gathered at Kiwanis Park to celebrate 100 years. The weather was beautiful, the strollers were plentiful, and there was beer, axe throwing, kiddie rides, and golf simulators. Did we say beer?

1873 Historic Map of Bernardsville – Our Birthday Card to Bville!

We always wondered where that huge pond was in Bernardsville. Many don’t know that Mill Street once had mills that needed water. So, just off Claremont Road, behind places like the Old Stone Hotel, there was once a huge pond to support those mills. The area today is actually a ball field. Do you know it now?

MLH gave out over 150 historic Bernardsville maps suitable for framing. Special thanks to Rich Steinberg at Bernardsville Print Center for donating the materials. Didn’t get one? You Can. Click Here
